11 Killed in Gaza as Violence Persists Amid Ceasefire and U.S.-Backed Peace Plan
Although, ceasefire agreement is in place since October, still violence persists in Gaza, with at least 11 deaths in recent Israeli airstrikes on tent camps and tunnel exits. Both the IDF and Hamas have accused each other of daily ceasefire violations, with Gaza health authorities reporting more than 600 deaths since the ceasefire. In the midst of this turmoil, plans are underway for "Phase Two" of a US-mediated peace plan. This includes the "Board of Peace," an international body formed by the UN to create an international security force, including 8,000 Indonesian soldiers, to manage Gaza’s borders and the disarming of Hamas. Meanwhile, President Trump has promised $5 billion in reconstruction aid and a new technocratic government, but Hamas has stated that it will not disarm until a Palestinian state is created.
